Dwell on Design Los Angeles 2015 has come and gone, and we’re so pleased to announce this year’s attendance outranked all 10 years prior, with 32,428 design seekers. DODLA’s five design zones, which included Design Materials, Kitchen & Bath, Furniture & Accessories, International Design, and everyone’s favorite Dwell Outdoor, gave Dwell readers, design professionals, and design afficianados, alike, some insight on current and future trends in architecture, interior design and landscaping.
Designer and Keynote Speaker Marcel Wanders spoke to the importance of holistic design and breaking from the status quo of modernism, “Design always wants to go back to modernism because it’s such a simple place to be.” His message also touched on the idea of looking to the past and its quality of design, to create unique handmade works, instead of relying on machines, which sometimes threaten the design process. “Industry has done great things, but it also has taken away the uniqueness of the object,” Wanders said. “Nothing grows old faster than the new.”
For our 10th annual conference, a panel of esteemed jurors combed the show floor to recognize extraordinary exhibitors in 10 separate categories. The annointed winners of the 2015 Dwell on Design Awards, included:
- Kitchen: Bauformat
- Lighting: Cerno
- Bath: Franz Viegener
- Outdoor: Galanter & Jones
- Modern Family: Grandin Road
- Furniture: Greta de Parry
- Sustainability: IndoTeak Design
- Design Material: ShapeCrete
- Best Booth: Porsche
- Best in Show: Fehlo
Dwell president Michela O’Connor Abrams presented a special Good Modernist Award—the first of its kind at DODLA—to Nina Smith of GoodWeave, who spoke to attendees of the importance of buying Child-Labor-Free Certified products.
